The issue lies within McAfee’s Web Advisor / Site Advisor extension for Chrome and other browsers, it blocks Shogun 2’s iteration of the Total War encyclopedia which causes the game to crash. The Web Advisor extension basically “grades” websites and gives you an indication of how safe it is in the form of a little icon, and an annoying pop-up box for some links. The biggest cause for this, especially with the Total War games, is graphics driver. Make sure you update your graphics drivers, and even motherboard drivers, before trying to play any of these RAM hogs on Windows 8.

Welcome to!A subreddit for all of those who love the Total War series. I recently uninstalled and re-installed Empire after it was not wanting to launch after unsuccessful attempts at running the game with Mods. When I went to launch it this time however, I get a CTD at the vanilla Empire logo loading screen and get the message 'A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available'. I already tried verifying the game file integrity but this did not work. (I have no mods running when I get this message btw).

Give us your specs, anytime you post an issue online ALWAYS state what system your running on, otherwise no-one will be able to help you quickly enough.1) What Operating System are you on? Mac?2) What hardware do you have? What Graphics? How much RAM do you have?If your on Windows 10 that might be causing problems. If your running old hardware that might be the issue.Your system might be corrupt somehow or Empire itself. That's all I can say until you give us some more info on how to narrow it down for you. As you mentioned to someone else comment, you have darth mod installed yes or no? Or have you uninstalled it and this has happened? Either way if you go into /Appdata/Roaming/CreativeAssembly/Empire something like that the path is, if you find battle.prefrences.txt and other setting files delete them, start the game re-apply your graphics settings and what not and it'll re-make those files.Sometimes they get corrupt and mess up the game so deleting them might fix your issue.

This trick should work on a lot of the TW titles.
